CBT Mindfulness-Based Approaches Sandtray & Sandplay Therapy

"Therapy is a collaborative process that creates space for children to express, understand, and work through their experiences while feeling supported and truly seen. It fosters growth by building emotional awareness, insight, and the skills needed to navigate challenges with confidence."

Background & Experience

I am a Licensed Associate Counselor with over 30 years of experience working with children and families in educational and clinical settings, including roles as a teacher, school counselor, and Director of School Counseling. I am currently pursuing a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision at Liberty University. My work is grounded in Sandplay Therapy, and I am pursuing advanced training as a Sandplay Psychoanalyst through the CG Jung Institute. I am also trained in Child-Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT) and continue to expand my work through advanced training in CBT for youth through the Beck Institute.

How We'll Work Together

Our work together is engaging, supportive, and tailored to each child’s needs. I use Sandplay and Cognitive-Behavioral Play Therapy to help children express their experiences in a developmentally appropriate way while building insight and emotional awareness. I incorporate evidence-based CBT strategies to help children understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and develop skills for emotional regulation. Sessions are structured yet flexible, allowing us to focus on emotional expression, skill-building, or both, depending on what each child needs. Parent involvement is an important part of the process, and I incorporate Child-Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT) to strengthen connection and support progress at home.

Who I Work Best With

I work best with children and families who are navigating emotional challenges or changes within the family, including divorce, grief, and loss. My approach is most effective when parents are actively involved, as I believe caregiver participation is essential to a child’s growth and progress. Families who are open to the process and willing to strengthen connections at home often experience the most meaningful and lasting outcomes.
